Jeremy Pine has been dealing in Asian art for more than 45 years. Originally based in Kathmandu, Nepal, Jeremy now lives and works in Hong Kong. While he is widely known as a Chinese textile expert, he has also made significant discoveries in Tibetan, Nepalese, Central Asian, and Chinese art, including lacquer, arms and armour, painting, sculpture, and carpets. Jeremy specializes in finding beautiful and unique objects. He has sold many treasures to major museums in the U.S., Europe, and Asia, as well as to private collectors worldwide.
But it’s not all about business. In 1993, in order to gain some first hand knowledge of archaeology in Central Asia, Pine accepted a position as Expedition Director for a team of Russian archaeologists and students working in Tuva. In this capacity, Jeremy worked on behalf of the Hermitage Museum for 3 years under the supervision of Boris Marshak. The 1994 and 1995 expeditions were in Mongün Taiga, the Valley of the Silver Mountain, the most remote region of Tuva. Previously unexplored, the valley is possibly one of the most scenic and archaeologically rich sites in Central Asia.
Jeremy is currently the curator of The Exile Carpet. This 2nd century rug fragment depicts the exile of Mary Magdalene to France. As such it is one of the earliest whispers of Christianity. The carpet has been published in several scholarly books, and was part of a National Geographic documentary about Mary Magdalene.
